So far, for our passion project, Ellie and I have asked students at Bluevale what they are most stressed about, and the majority of them said that the thing causing them the most stress was deciding what to do after high school. We found that we also felt the same way, and so we decided we wanted to ease people's stress and give them some more information about the future. Stress negatively affects your mental well-being, and we want to help people at Bluevale stay positive and happy, which is why reducing it is so important to us.
Once we decided what we wanted to do for our passion project, we found that we wouldn't be able to help others if we didn't know what they were thinking of doing after high school. So we decided to make a Google form and ask students which pathways or programs they were most interested in taking. We want to interview many different people for our passion project who have gone into different post-secondary pathways. With this information, we will be able to determine which pathways people are most interested in, and we will prioritize and go into more depth with them in our interviews. As we looked through the responses, we found that a majority of the students wanted to attend and learn more about university. This helped us pick our first two interviewees, Avery Cairns and Chantal Loffree, where we would ask them about their personal university experiences and programs.
By the end of our passion project, we want to learn more about the post-secondary pathways that don’t get talked about very frequently, such as the military or apprenticeship. While we know a lot about the university pathway, it is important to know all of your options before choosing what you want to do.
I found the quote, “Pay attention to the things you are naturally drawn to. They are often connected to your path, passion, and purpose in life. Have the courage to follow them” by Ruben Chavez, particularly inspiring for our passion project as it helped me start to think about my interests in a critical way. Once I started to notice what I found enjoyable, I was able to link those things to what I want to do after high school. I hope that our passion project will be able to do for others what this quote has done for me.
Lianna and I asked some students at Bluevale what they were most stressed about and most of them said it was deciding what to do after high school. Since we felt the same way, we decided that we wanted to try and reduce people’s stress by giving them a website they could use to learn more about some of the options out there. After figuring out that’s what we wanted to do for our passion project, we realized that we needed to learn more about what others were interested in doing. We decided to gather some more info by using a Google form and asking the students at Bluevale which pathways and/or programs they were most interested in.
For our passion project Lianna and I want to interview a wide variety of people who have gone into various post-secondary pathways. By using the information from the Google form we will know which pathways to prioritize and provide more detailed information about. After sending out the Google form, we found that most people were planning to go to university and wanted to learn more about it. Because of this, Lianna and I decided to interview Avery Cairns and Chantal Loffree about their personal university experience and programs as our first two interviews.
A quote I came across that I believe relates to our passion project is, “You will recognize your own path when you come upon it, because you will suddenly have all the energy and imagination you will ever need” by Jerry Gillies. Since Lianna and I are interviewing various people about the many post-secondary pathway options, I'm hoping that hearing about some of the specific pathways will inspire an interest in that subject for us, and for some Bluevale students.
By the end of our passion project Lianna and I want to have learned more about the post-secondary pathways that don’t get talked about very frequently, such as the military or apprenticeship. This is because we believe it is very important to know lots about the different post-secondary options before deciding which path you want to take. By knowing about the options out there it is also easier to make what most students consider a very daunting decision, thus reducing their stress and significantly improving their mental well-being.
